ASSEMBLAGE
My interest in 3 D forms and design, has lead me to the process of “building” art. I enjoy constructing a “frame”, gathering physical representations of ideas and finding patterns and associations between everyday things.
SEASONAL
I notice that I’m often inspired by New England’s seasons. The weather and colors changes alone, tend to insist that I acknowledge my environment and the way in which I pass through it.
YEARLONG VISUAL DOCUMENTATIONS
I’ve discovered that having a yearlong project keeps me focussed and disciplined. It’s made easier for me since it is similar to journaling, which I have an affinity for. The end result is a visual story that journeys beyond words and explores the alternatives.
FIBER ART
I’m interested in working with natural materials because, like an heirloom seed, they were once living organisms that connect me to the past. Whether I’m gathering and peeling bark from fallen trees, for sculptures, using grasses from the prairie for basketry or working with sheep’s wool from a local farm, for fashioning fabric, they quietly remind me of all the renewable resources I have at my fingertips.
Conceptual ARTIST
HARTFORD ART’s approach to ART was an interesting fit for me because writing was at its’ core. All of a sudden, my love of journaling the mundane became important. I began using it as a tool to harness my ideas, observations and experiences. My eyes go wide. Concepts gathered in my head. They ventured out through my fingers and came up for air on the white pages. The words, once recorded, had license to take on “artistic shape”
